What is a good mountain bike to start off with ?

I use to ride a little bit but I am looking for a Mountain Bike that is not very expensive that people won’t laugh at, what would you say ? I am a begginner ?

    If you buy the bike from a real bike shop, you’ll end up with a good bike. If you buy it from a department store, those strange people you speak of might laugh at you.

    At a real shop you will find a low end bike by a good make. The ones already mentioned are just a few of a ton of good brands, so instead of getting hung up on them, go to the store and see what you like.

    go to a bike shop and ask to look at there hard tail’s you should be able to find a good priced hard tail that will last you a long time.look for giant/kona/specialized hard rock at a bike shop they will make sure the bike you pick will be a good fit for your body they wont do that at walmart all you find there is junk

    About a month ago I bought a Raleigh Mountain Bike from a local bike shop. I had not ridden a bike in years, but I was able to jump right back on and ride. I have ridden the bike a lot and highly recommend it. I am still figuring out which gears I like for uphill, downhill, and coasting. For $280 I got a new bike and 1 yr free maintenance. The sales associate was very helpful and I got to try out several bikes before I made a choice. I did buy my bike rack from Target but the bike shop staff helped me attach everything properly to my car. It is an impressive bike, my boyfriend rode my bike around the block and he was very impressed with its speed. He is going to get a mountain bike on his next payday. The specific model I got was the Mojave 2.0. It is great exercise, and there is no comparison for feeling the wind in your face.

    Look in the classifieds in some mountain bike forums, you can get some good deals.
