A road bike is more fun and fast on the street, but you do get a better workout with a mountain bike.
Agree?
A road bike can feel like a leisure stroll while on a mountain, you use more muscle.

On a mountain bike on the street, there is more of a feeling of control and stability and it seems better going up hills.
However, there is more of a thrill with a road bike because it’s faster and smoother.
Overall, I don’t think there is that much of a difference. The guy at the bike shop said a mountain bike can be ridden anywhere not just on trails.
In the long run, does anyone feel there is a difference between the two?

I heard something that a road bike is much more taxing on your back than a mountain bike and I am thinking of giving up my MTB for the road

for a city like boston where the streets are ussually clear but there is the occasional ice, would a road bike or mountain bike be better for the winter?
ive heard road bikes are better because they cut through snow, but mountain bikes have better traction.
imput? suggestions?

hi, im 14 years old and i live in toronto. its summer right now so i bike a lot. i bike a pretty long distance to get to the pool. i also bike to places for fun (which can be several km’s). i currently have a mountain bike 18 speed and it feels kinda slow and harder to pedal than my friends road bike. people say i should a road bike cause i want to make the Olympics road race 2016 or 2020.
so my question to this is which bike should suit me more (road or mountain)

I want to start riding but, I’m have a tough time deciding what kind of bike I should get…I will be riding mostly on the roads and I like to go fast, but I also want a bike that I can take anywhere if I need to…You can still go fast on a Mountain bike right?, just not as fast has a road bike….What would be a good bike for me to buy?….

Should a ‘beginner’ cyclist get a road bike? I’m not very good at cycling; mainly I’m afraid of sharing the road with cars and also tend to overreact to potholes and cracks in the ground. I’m also pretty weak on climbing. On the other hand, it’s my objective to overcome these obstacles and eventually be able to ride long city trails. Should I start with a mountain bike and build up my skills first, or should I just go ahead and get a road bike since that’s my end goal anyway?

This is kind of a follow-up question from my last question.
I want to get my mountain bike from Tennessee over to Los Angeles. I don’t want to ship it here, but rather I want to ride it the 2500 miles across the country. Can I do this on a mountain bike, or is that a ridiculous idea and I should only think of covering that sort of a distance on a road bike?
I wouldn’t be in a huge hurry; I’d do it over a summer so I’d have two and a half to three months to make the trip.

I currently have a specialized rockhopper with all the standard components. Its a mountain bike through and through. I am somewhat new to the biking world and I know it is possible to convert it to a road bike but how would one go about it? and with all that in mind, would it not be worth it and should i just save up for a road bike?

I will have the bike shop guy set me up with the right size and everything, but will using more road-friendly tires increase my speed and distance? I love mountain biking but I figure I need to start using my bike for all-purpose activities, such as getting groceries. I want to be able to go further and faster but without purchasing a road bike.
Is there anything else I can do to help compensate for the heavy frame?
