what should I look for when buying a cheaper end mountain bike?

I have a modest budget for a new mountain bike (around £500) and would like to know what to look out for? ie what can I get for my money? What factors are worth considering?

How can I find out if my 03 silverado has torsion bars, and how do I fix my ride height?

I’m a new truck owner, and sadly I do not know enough about working on trucks to help myself in this situation. I have searched the web tirelessly to find my answer, but I couldn’t seem to find all the information I am looking for.

I recently purchased my first truck, a 2003 Chevy Silverado 1500 4WD z71 with a 5.3L V8. I currently have two problems. The first is that I do not like the ride height of the vehicle. I understand all stock trucks are lower in the front, but I wanted to add a leveling kit to bring the front level with the rear. The problem is, I don’t know if I have torsion bars, to purchase the keys to increase the height 1.5-2”. How can I figure this out (does anyone know off hand, or have pictures, that would allow me to look and see)?

The second problem is that my ride height in the front is currently uneven. The passenger side currently sits about 1.5” lower than the driver’s side. This stays the same whether someone is in the driver’s seat or not. What could be the problem? If I do have torsion bars, is this an adjustment I could make, or do I have a suspension problem? The truck pulls to the left slightly, but I figured that to be an alignment problem that I would have taken care of after installing the leveling kit. Having paid a lot of money for this vehicle, it is important that I get this right.

How can I first of all, correct my ride height (tire pressure is ok…I checked) to be even in the front? Second, what’s the best way to level out my truck?

Since I have this thread open, I’d also like to ask for some suggestions concerning an exhaust. What would be a good exhaust option that would have a deep, throaty sound, but not drown me out in the cab on the highway? I only have one cat, so I don’t want to spend the money for true duals. I thought about a cat back system from magnaflow to run dual outlets out the rear. What do you all think?

I need a few answers about a couple of bike parts:)?

First of all, I want to buy a nice mountain bike, and I simply can’t decide. I have the money and like very much the dirt/ jump frames and what those bikes have on them, i mean the components. My first choice would be the 2008 giant stp zero, but it is a bit too expensive, and i had an idea of getting the stp 1 and then get the suspension fork after a while. But there are other differences between the bikes. First of all:

One has amigo rims, the other one wtb dual duty. Which one is better?

One has bottom crank truvativ ruktion 1.0 bg 36t and the other one has truvativ husselfelt 1.0 36t. What is the difference on the road/ on off-road and which one is better ( if any).

And of course, if you think that a price difference of about 0 is worth the waiting for the suspension fork.

Thank you:)

Aaa i forgot to mention and the rims have Formula disc hubs. How are these hubs, are they any good?

What Bike Should I Choose?

I am wanting to start biking. I would like to go into wooded trails, and mountains upnorth. I dont want to spend a whole lot of money, I just want a bike that would fit what im doing, and to last a while. I want disc brakes, and at least 18 gears, and dual suspension, if possible. What bike company should I go with that has the best bike for your buck?

Squeaky bike..help:(?

I recently brought a new bike- a dual suspension silver fox orb with disk breaks and All is good and i love the bike except one problem..its just started squeaking and creaking like mad!!! i think its coming from the rear suspension but not sure and despite a lot of ppl having the same probs and asking here i’m not finding anything useful.(oil/don’t oil, one says one thing then another says different) I had it serviced the other day and the only probs then they sorted was rubbing breaks. The squeak problem started mildly on my first ride and now its getting worse.
When i stand on the bike and bounce- is when it makes the noises, and i’ve repeatedly oiled it with WD40, even bouncing/oiling at the same time makes no effect. my last bike was the same on and off but not this bad. pllleeeeaaase help someone
I understand that you have to pay more for better quality but for some like me and others money is an issue so i dont need telling to buy a more expensive bike otherwise i’d ask for suggestions on which bike to buy. i brought a cheap bike just to commute to and from work i’m not a keen cyclist nor have knowledge of repairs ect.. all i want to know is it fixable at all? thanks for saying DW40 is a big no no i’ll bear that in mind!!

Want 2 buy a 2001 Silverado 1500 ExCab LS but don't understand vehicle info, PLEASE HELP?

These are the things listed on a truck I’d like to buy for my husband but don’t know what any of it means. My husband is a mechanic in Iraq right now and I’d like to surprise him. He loves Silverados and likes BIG and FAST. Is this a fast truck, if not what can I do to make it faster? I hear of flowmasters, superchargers, chips and turbo kits things like that but being he’s a mechanic I’d love to really impress him with the most power possible within a realistic price range not to exceed ,000 (3,000 is for adding horsepower not money for the truck, truck money is seperate)
can u please help me and suggest things I may do to boost horsepower and torque. thanks
Here’s the info listed on the truck that I’m looking at

Mountain biking help?

I have been riding bikes for a while, but i just started to get into actual mountain biking. I need some ideas before i go to the shops on what type of bike i need. First of all i only have a 0-700(USD) budget. I want a bike that can do some freeride jumps(nothing major, im only 14) but can also hit up the regular trails. I was hoping to get a dual suspension. hopefully i can raise my budget by throwing in some of my money, because this will be a X-mas present but that wont raise it much. thanks to all who answered. also i dont want to go into used bikes, but lastyears modles are ok.
this is my local freeride track, just so you guys can see. its RAMBO in roswell GA http://vimeo.com/5776691
