Akrapovic adds more power to Kawasaki Z1000

Watch this exclusive MCN video below to see the fitting of a full Akrapovic exhaust to my long term test Kawasaki Z1000, which not only dropped loads of weight off the bike but also gave another 11bhp. The Kawasaki Z1000′s stock exhausts are the only ‘Marmite’ part of the bike, judging by MCN readers’ comments, which range from ‘distinctive’ to ‘minging’. But love ‘em or hate ‘em, you can’t get away from the fact they are bloody heavy. Just how heavy was revealed when I took the bike to Dave Cooper Racing in Kettering (01536-519200).

hi :) any1 can post a link where i can find information bout how does a muffler can make the bike stronger?

I have a 2003 Z1K stock except for the airbox mod and better filter.

I’m 6′, 230 lbs, my BMI indicates that my proper weight should be 175-190.

2 years ago I was 255 and went down to 214. Not only did the performance of the Z improved dramatically but the Booty Factor
hit the sky. What the Z1K needs is better suspension (ZX6R or Traxxion), and a sensible diet and exercise regime from the rider. Wanna make the bike lighter and faster? Start with yourself first. Cheap hp and good looks, HE HE.

I was very happy with the result of deleting the stock lead pipes for CF slip ons. I think they were around 30lbs total & both CF mufflers & mid-pipes are like 4lbs, so there was almost 4HP just from weight loss & it transitioned from side to side faster.

  9. Ridgebackdown says:

Sorry people, slip ons suck. Want your bike to really wake up? No replacement for displacement. My 05 ZX-10 dynos at 223 rwhp. It has a full Akrapovic titanium system and lots more. Its 2 over.

  10. patrickharvey says:

No replacement for displacement? What the hell are you talking about? Adding a full exhaust system changes nothing about the displacement of the engine.

  11. Ridgebackdown says:

Idiot. You think any exhaust system gives you more displacement,? aka oversized pistons? Have fun showing off your go fast blinkers at bike night.

  12. patrickharvey says:

You honestly have no fucking idea what you are talking about.

  14. Ridgebackdown says:

    Displacement is cylinder size moron.

  15. patrickharvey says:

Yes, according to your original comment you are the one that seems to be unaware of that. Sound to me like you just heard the term “no replacement for displacement” and were looking for some way to make yourself look smart.

  16. Ridgebackdown says:

2 over means 2 mm over stock displacement. Thats in my origional post.

  17. j1p4n says:

why anybody didnt satishfied with the original perfomance?.. dont be such thirsty.. some people satishfied just because of the sound..

This is without catalyser I guess… and above that it only gains power at the very END of the power curve… ¿is it really worth it??? Don’t think so. How many times do you use your bike in the red zone? If you do so, you should have your bike for the circuit. It’s stupid to pollute more and use it in the street…

  21. motorola222 says:

    save it for green peace.

jajaja great answer dude!! That’s why human brain is bigger than the rest of creatures, exactly for intelligent answers like this one. Congrats.,
